The annual National Memorial Day Concert airs this Sunday at 8 p.m. on PBS. A newly redesigned park in Oceanside just unveiled Tuesday is paying tribute to a fallen hometown hero. The ten-month old German Shepherd, “Strobe," is named after Steven Strobert, a 33-year-old Cantor Fitzgerald broker who died in September 11, 2001 attack on the Twin Towers. More.
Dennis Tortorella, Mamaroneck volunteer firefighter, headed to Ground Zero on 9/11
Dennis Tortorella joined fellow Town of Mamaroneck firefighters and headed to New York City to help out on Sept. 11, 2001. That night, they ended up at Ground Zero, fighting the spate of fires that continued to burn in nearby buildings. He died Monday, May 4. He was 75. The cause was 9/11-related cancer, his family said.
