Bill proposal requires cockpit barriers on all planes 20 years after 9/11

Bipartisan lawmakers introduced a bill this week aimed at fixing what many airline industry employees view as a major security flaw that still exists 20 years after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. “It needs to come to a vote… today,” said Capt. Poetry project planned for 20th anniversary of 9/11

Local artist/poet James Pelletier will partner with Learning Ally (LA), formerly known as Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic (RFB&D), to commemorate the events of Sept. 11, 2001. In 2002, Pelletier and the New York unit of the RFB&D collaborated to create a recording of the 2,977 names of the Sept. 11 victims. The artist/poet is an alumnus of LA/RFB&D. More.

Knoxville woman hikes 1,300 miles in remembrance of the events of Sept. 11

More than 700 miles away from the National 9/11 Memorial in New York City, Knoxville hiker Jan Walker felt a connection in the middle of Cades Cove. Her mileage log told her that when she entered the park, she was on mile 900 of her 1,300 milelong journey. If she were hiking the 9/11 National Memorial Trail — she would be in New York City. More.

Ponaganset planning firewood drive, essay contest in lead-up to 9/11 tribute

An effort to raise awareness of the upcoming 9/11 memorial and traveling museum at Ponaganset High School in April includes a fundraiser, a blood drive and a firewood collection to benefit those in need. PHS teacher Chris Stanley created the event and committee behind Ponaganset Remembers: A Tribute to the 9/11 Fallen. Accompanying events will help spread the word about the 9/11 Never Forget Mobile Exhibit, a traveling museum planned for April 28-30 at PHS.
