Training

VOICES Preparedness Training, a Victim-Centered Approach provides a framework to help community stakeholders prepare for and respond to tragedy. Based on more than 2 decades of experience, the training addresses the short and long-term needs of those impacted and the community at large.
Training Programs
VOICES has created educational programs and materials that help communities prepare to meet both the short and long-term needs of victims impacted by tragedy. Often emergency response planning does not take into account the long-term needs of victims. These individuals may continue to experience difficulties long after the event or they may find psychological issues will unexpectedly present years later.
Based upon the real world experience of staff members who have worked extensively since 2001 with those impacted by the attacks on 9/11, VOICES is uniquely positioned to provide a long-term framework for use by stakeholders within each community.
VOICES offers interactive workshops and expert-led webinars that promote resilience and healing, addressing evolving needs of trauma survivors and their communities.
VOICES has hosted 30 events featuring experts, researchers, and advocates to address trauma, grief, and the long-term needs of victims, families, and responders.
The Center of Excellence develops tools to help communities prepare for long-term recovery, addressing victims’ needs often overlooked in initial emergency planning.
Healing Communities
Tragedy often affects not just individuals but entire communities—and sometimes the world—uniting families, friends, and the public in grief. Communities may be defined by location, shared identity or interests, or the meaningful relationships that shape a person’s life.
With the increase of mass violence, VOICES created an eBook as a resource for community stakeholders to initiate plans directed at short-term response and long-term recovery. The eBook’s principles focus on how to assist communities in preparing for, responding to, and recovering from acts of mass violence. It was reviewed by the Office for Victims of Crime and is available to download here.
VOICES created Preparing for After, a resource kit based on best practices and expert interviews, offering guidance on responding to acts of mass violence.
VOICES research shows acts of violence and global crises like COVID-19 increase trauma. Consistent, long-term support is critical for survivors and impacted communities.
VOICES Tip Sheets offer clear, timely guidance for individuals and families affected by trauma, including mass violence or COVID-19, to support healing and resilience.
