Grant will support VOICES 20th Anniversary Remembrance Symposium Remembrance, Reflection and Resilience. Voices Center for Resilience (VOICES), formerly Voices of September 11th, was recently awarded a donor-advised fund $20,000 grant to support VOICES upcoming 20th Anniversary “Annual Remembrance Symposium” on September 9 and 10. The theme of VOICES Commemorative Programs and Events is Remembrance, Reflection and Resilience. The symposium will be held in New York City, but will also be accessible virtually so those living in other parts of the country, and the world are able to attend. In 2020, individuals from 39 states and 9 countries attended the virtual Symposium.
“We would like to thank Fairfield County’s Community Foundation for their recommendation of a $20,000 grant to VOICES. This extremely generous gift will allow us to continue to offer this important event that is beneficial to so many, especially during the emotional milestone of the 20th Anniversary,” said Mary Fetchet, Founding Director of VOICES.
Since the first anniversary in September 2002, VOICES Remembrance Symposium has been held annually at the New York Marriott Downtown Hotel, just adjacent to the 9/11 Memorial Museum site. The 2-day symposium features presentations by leading experts on topics that are relevant to the ongoing, evolving needs of victims’ families, responders and survivors. Over the years, 500 subject matter experts have participated in the annual event, sharing their expertise on topics such as mental health and wellness, resilience, trauma and bereavement. Mental health professionals, legal experts, government agencies and service providers provide updated information on resources and support. Most importantly, the symposium provides an opportunity for those impacted by 9/11 and other tragedies to gather as a community alongside the dedicated professionals who have supported them, in advance of the anniversary.
Fairfield County’s Community Foundation Vice President of Development and Philanthropic Services, Karen R. Brown, noted, “We are thrilled that one of our generous donor-advised fundholders at Fairfield County’s Community Foundation has recommended a $20,000 grant to Voices Center for Resilience. This donor-advised fund grant comes in early 2021, the 20th anniversary of September 11th and honors the 20 years of critical and varied support to survivors and their families that VOICES has provided.”
“When this donor-advised fundholder many years ago asked to be connected to a local nonprofit serving September 11th survivors and their families, we introduced them to VOICES,” Ms. Brown added. “We have been following Voices important work ever since.”
