On September 11, 2001, Cathy was near her office in the South Tower, when the first plane hit the other tower. Being a VP and in charge of the office, she had evacuated the staff and then called Chicago to tell them that everyone was OK. Next she called her former boss in Cincinnati to tell him all was OK, and he was shocked that she was not out of the building. Catherine explained that the public address system urged people to remain in their offices, but she had evacuated the staff and was just ready to leave herself. It was then that the phone call ended.
Catherine Patricia Salter was 49 years old and from New York, NY. Catherine worked as an assistant vice president in the property claims department at Aon Corp on the 102 floor in the South Tower of the World Trade Center.

Cathy P. Salter could be counted on to show up for the annual pool party, baseball game or road trip with her friends in Cincinnati. Even when she moved to Brooklyn Heights nearly two years ago, that didn't change. ''She was back almost once a month,'' said her friend Kim Ohl. She bought season tickets for Cincinnati Reds games. She volunteered to bring an opera cream cake to the fall wine tasting. Last spring, when it became clear that her 16-year-old dog, Babette, would not live much longer, Ms. Salter bundled her into the car and drove west to give her one last glimpse of Cincinnati.
An assistant vice president in the property claims department at Aon, Ms. Salter, 37, was known as ''the superaunt'' to her 11 nieces and nephews, pouring her energy into activities with them, said her younger sister, Lynda Kelley. She loved romantic movies like ''The Cutting Edge,'' and celebrated Mardi Gras every year with a trip to New Orleans, accompanied by three or four friends.
Ms. Ohl spoke to her on Sept. 10. ''Cathy called me and said, 'What's the number for the Bonbonerie?' '' That's a bakery in Cincinnati, and she wanted to order the cake she said she would bring to the wine party in October. She was planning to be there.
Memorial sights
There are two memorials to Cathy in Wellsville Ohio, her home town. One at First and Lisbon St and the other at the Wellsville High School
