Biography:

David S. Lee's wife was three months' pregnant when he died on Sept. 11.

"He was so excited about the baby that he actually bought almost the whole collection of Warner Brothers Beanie Babies," said Angela Lee, his wife. The child was going to be the couple's first. "He tried to talk to the fetus. He would say: 'Hello! Can you hear me? I love you.' He came up with two names, one for a girl and one for a boy."

Since Mr. Lee's death, a sonogram has shown that his wife will have a son. The Lees, both Chinese, did not care much about the sex of their child, but traditional Chinese families prefer to have at least one son to carry on the family name. "Under the circumstances, it is a joy that I am carrying a son," Mrs. Lee said.

Mr. Lee, 37, a senior vice president at Fiduciary Trust, was looking forward to taking time off and helping his wife when the baby was born. "He wanted to give our children what we didn't have as children," she said. "You know, the Chinese generational thing. They will learn swimming at a much younger age, interact with other children early on and have a lot more toys."
