Affectionately known as "Brookie Cookie" or "the Brookster", she was able to touch your heart with just her smile. Though fiercely independent and determined, she was always compassionate, a girl who never put herself before others, whether they be family, friends or just an acquaintance. To know Brooke was to love her! Brooke brought to this world a beauty that transcends the limits of physical appearance.
She had a nonchalant selflessness about her, the type of altruism that immediately attracted people to her. She never judged, but always listened, with both with her ears and her heart. She never denied help to those who asked and often gave it to those who didn't. She could light up a room with her smile and show you that things were never as bad as you thought they were. Brooke had the ability to succeed in any endeavor no matter how difficult but always remained modest and humble. She was a voracious reader, reading almost a book each day. Every night she would stop by Borders Bookstore in her Kips Bay neighborhood always recognizable with her trusted backpack and water bottle.
Brooke had already devoted her young life (age 23) to those less fortunate: volunteering in soup kitchens, a thrift shop to benefit cancer patients and as a volunteer in a school for disabled children. In 1996 her dedication was recognized with an award from the Nassau County Executive for "scholarship and service". Brooke's generous heart was felt by all who came in contact with her. Her unparalleled kindness, beauty, and intelligence will forever be remembered by those who knew her.

Brooke Jackman had a photographic memory that earned her, at 23, an unofficial role as family historian. If her mother wanted to remember a decade-old conversation, she'd dial up Brooke, her youngest daughter, at her Murray Hill apartment. Usually Brooke recalled not only what was said, but what everyone was wearing at the time. In late August, she organized a family birthday outing: she, her parents and two siblings went to dinner in Greenwich Village, then to an Off-Broadway play.
She forever had her nose in a book, read everything from Sylvia Plath to ''Sex and the City''-style fluff, and stopped by the Borders bookstore almost daily on her way home from her new job as an assistant bond trader at Cantor Fitzgerald. She was, said her brother, Ross, literally the kind of person who would not hurt a fly. ''There were times I'd try to kill a bug, and she wouldn't let me.''
She grew up in Oyster Bay, N.Y., graduated from Columbia University in 2000 on the Dean's List, and gravitated to Wall Street, where her father and brother worked, after a year in publishing. But she was not completely fulfilled at Cantor Fitzgerald. ''She decided there were more important things in life than making money,'' said her brother. A master's in social work was her goal, and she was in the process of applying to Berkeley and Columbia to achieve it.

Taking time to pay respects
It’s evident from what I’ve learned about you and your life you were an intelligent, beautiful and thoughtful person and no doubt an Angel with the lord now.
We were the same age when you left separated only by a couple months. I recall witnessing this tragedy on that day and hadn’t revisited that day until now. I offer my condolences to your mother and father, siblings and all those who lost you that day. Your legacy will live on forever rest in peace Brooke.

I never met you but I think of you all the time. You are an angel looking down. I know you would have really gone places in life and would have followed your dreams.
