Maria Lopez-Be… (not verified)

September 11, 2021

I still remember you calling me to ask me to keep the school-based health center in Harlem open so that you can install the last of the cabinets in the reception area. It was 9/10 and I had a Yankees game to go to - it was my birthday, and I wanted to leave. Everyone else had gone home. You were all the way downtown at the WTC and you pleaded, so I waited for you. Once you arrived, you were nothing but gracious. We talked about the game I was going to, and you installed the cabinets. We talked about your daughter. You were so proud. You hurried so I wouldn't be late to the game. We parted ways. The next day, you were gone forever and I remember the heartbreak in your wife's face as she waited for news from you, day in and day out. I recall a few times in the following weeks near the hospital, I thought I had seen you and the last time, I grabbed the person's arm.. I was so sure it was you and I had forgotten for that moment, that you were gone. It made me cry on the way to a meeting. I think of 9/11 and it still breaks my heart for you, for the young family you had, for all that could and would have been. You are missed and loved by so many. Keep resting in peace & power, and keep watching over your wife and daughter. You would be extremely proud of their accomplishments.
