We come here to honor those who lost, those who survived and the families whose lives are changed forever. We will never forget the unspeakable devastation of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. Remember our loved ones who were taken from us. May this memorial help us move forward with dignity, strength, peace, serenity, and hope in tribute to THE HEROES OF OUR LIVES.Reason Site Was Selected:Babylon barrier beaches are considered our greatest natural asset. It was felt that this area possessed scenic beauty and views yet has sufficient open space to provide a quiet environment for remembrance and reflection. Events Planned For Site. The town has and will continue to conduct an annual remembrance vigil on the anniversary of 9/11. Individual families will be encouraged to hold personal vigils to remember lost family members. Do You Believe Your Memorial is a Sacred Place?:On September 10, 2002 the town held a vigil with representatives of all the families who lost a loved one. A multi-denomination group of religious leaders blessed the site at this event.
