Carol
What a beautiful tribute to a remarkable girl. You made me laugh and cry at the same time. As I was looking at everything, I kept thinking how like she was just like you Carol in so many ways. You were both so lucky to have each other. Thank you for sharing Janice with me. I enjoyed getting to know her:)

Dear Carol

Janice's page touched me very deeply. Your letter, your poem your comments brought tears to my eyes> How blessed you were to have had such a close relationship with her. I remember some of your stories about her when she was little and the pride that accompanied each one. How blessed she was to have a mom like you a family like yours. What a beautiful tribute to a beautiful young woman.

Love

Thinking of you Today and Always. Janice was a good friend of mine. Matt Effron Silver (My Husband And Richard Gallo Have Been Best Friends Since High School. The Four of us were close Friends. Matt and I went to NYU Richard and Janice, Cornell.

We would all go boating out of Hewlett Harbor by the docks and go to watch the planes land AT JFK.

I remember Richard and Janice would go to these Interesting yet Confrontational Destinations, All over the world and I would be afraid to fly.

I remember asking Janice: Aren't you Afraid to go to these places? And see said no, I'm not afraid at all its all safe.

I remember thinking wow she is much stronger then me. I would be afraid.

Meanwhile the Scary people that I was talking about, ended u showing up in our own back yard ,so close to where we would go boating.

Janice was at my Shower, My Engagement Party and My Wedding.

I got Married to Matthew Sept 17, 2000

Janice was Amazingly Beautiful Both Inside and Out!!!!

I was there for her first Memorial that day in Rockville Center.

I say Prayers and Honor Janice Every Year.

Now Next Generation, Matt and Mt Daughter Julia Alana, who was born Aug 14, 2007, is making sure Her Generation Remembers Janice and Keeps Her Memory Alive.

I Just wanted to Let You know, on this day especially, Our Hearts are with your Family.

Biography:

March 27, 1976 -September 11, 2001 To her family and friends, Janice was like a sunbeam radiating energy, warmth and light. She brightened our world. Her laughter, sense of humor and adventurous spirit drew people to her. She cherished her friends, both old and new. Some saw her as a role model because of her determination and drive, while others spoke of her insight. Everyone, though, mentioned her charismatic joie de vivre.

Janice grew up in Rockville Centre, NY. She was very close to her parents and brother, Michael, with whom she loved to play backgammon. She graduated from Oceanside High School in 1994. In addition to academic awards and recognition as an AP Scholar With Distinction, she won an award for most outstanding art student. She also won a Congressional district art award for a paper mosaic eagle which was displayed in the United States Capitol for a year.

During her college years, she worked one summer as a bartender in an upscale restaurant. Ironically, she was not legally old enough to drink at the time! Janice said when she was interviewing for positions after graduation, the bartending experience seemed to jump out on her resume, perhaps because she was only 4'10" and looked so young. She graduated from Cornell in 1998 with a BA in English, achieving Dean’s List recognition her last four semesters. Immediately after graduation, Janice entered the world of finance with a position at Sanford Bernstein. In March, 2000, having passed Level 1 of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Test , she moved to a position as a Research Associate at Fred Alger Management, also a financial firm, located on the 93rd floor of Tower One, World Trade Center.

On September 11th, she had just returned from a trip to Turkey, her first real vacation since graduation. She chose Turkey because she wanted to experience a different culture. Janice was in the process of buying an apartment in New York City. In July, 2001, she had made an offer which was accepted, and begun the mortgage process. The deal fell through when the seller received a cash offer instead. Janice was planning to resume the search for an apartment toward the end of September. She had saved enough money for a down payment by living at home. Each morning, a little after 6 AM, she left Rockville Centre for the hour plus commute into lower Manhattan. She usually did not return before 8:30 PM. The hours were even more grueling during earning season, four times a year when the financial industry reacted to business earning reports. Then she would arrive at home between 10 PM and 1 AM. Regardless of how late she got in the previous evening, the next morning she was on the train by 6:15 AM.

Drawing and painting, reading, dancing, rollerblading, kayaking and traveling were among the many activities she enjoyed. Janice’s adventurous spirit even led her to try bungee jumping. She loved a challenge, both mental and physical! Janice made friends easily and from childhood, treasured each friendship. She loved being with her friends. Even before she kissed the Blarney Stone, her lively vignettes charmed listeners. She sparkled with vitality. Janice brought happiness to her family and friends through her love and caring, her joie de vivre, her contagious laughter and her wonderful sense of humor. Her legacy is the memories of the light, love and laughter she shared with her family and friends.
