Owen Thomas Carlock, 58, of Middletown, NJ, passed away Wednesday, May 23, 2012 while on vacation in Myrtle Beach, SC. He was born in Brooklyn, NY and lived in Staten Island before settling in Middletown. Owen is a graduate of the New York City School of Printing and the FDNY Academy. Owen was last employed by Vornado Realty. Owen's true calling was a New York City Firefighter from 1981 through 2004. He was a September 11, 2001 first responder from Ladder 122 in Brooklyn. His dedication and bravery during the tragedy earned him the Honorary Keys to the City from the Town of Dunn, NC. For a period, Owen was part of Rescue 5 in Staten Island and was a certified rescue diver. While Owen had received many awards and honors, he would be the first to say he was just doing his duty to protect those in harm's way. Owen will be missed, but will always remain a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.

Surviving are his wife, Shirley Diefenthaler Carlock; his three children, Emily Frances Carlock, Jacquelyn Mae Carlock, and Evan George Carlock; his three brothers, Edmond and his wife Sandra, Brendan, and Gil and his wife Kimberly; sister, Moira Rivas and her husband Vincent; granddaughter, Layla Jean Carlock and seven nieces and nephews. Owen is also survived by his brother-in-law, Mark Diefenthaler, his wife Diane and their two daughters.

Owen was preceded in death by parents, Bernard and Catherine Carlock and his brother, Lt. Neil Carlock, USN.
