September 11, 2021

On Friday, September 14, 2001, I was on a Delta flight from West Palm to Atlanta. As we taxied, the pilot welcomed us on board and told a story of his good friend from back in the Military. He talked about how they were both pilots in the Air Force. The Delta pilot spoke warmly about how he and his friend kept in touch after they both became commercial pilots. With a heavy heart, the pilot revealed that the friend he just spoke of was John Ogonowski, the Captain of American Airlines Flight 11 that struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center on September 11th. I don't think there was a dry on on that Delta flight that day. 20 years later, I remember that day and that Delta pilot's tribute like it was yesterday. God Bless the family of Captain Ogonowski and all that knew and loved him.
