All of us at VOICES are looking forward to visiting with you at this Saturday's Always Remember Interfaith Service at St. Peter's R.C. Church. It will be a beautiful day to visit this landmark church and the 9/11 Memorial. We visited with Father Madigan last week and we have prepared a two minute "trailer" for you to view so that you can get to know him as well – and see his historic parish church and the St. Peter's Memorial Cross.

What a beautiful day! As the daffodils in our gardens begin to bloom, it makes me think of the wonderful gift of The Daffodil Project - a joint endeavor between NY4P and the NYC Department of Parks and Recreation. The Daffodil Project was founded in response to the attacks of September 11th as a memorial, that would raise the spirits of New Yorkers and revitalize parks and communities throughout the five boroughs.

Saturday, February 12th marks the third anniversary of the death of our friend Beverly Eckert, who died in an airplane crash in Buffalo, New York. As many of you know, Beverly lost her husband Sean Rooney on 9/11 and co-founded VOICES. She was also a staunch advocate on a variety of 9/11 issues, especially government reforms to make the country safer.

In just a week's time we have had two individuals important to the 9/11 community pass away. I am writing today to share the very sad news that Bill Doyle's wife, Camille Doyle died on Wednesday. Camille was the mother of Joseph Doyle, who was lost on 9/11. Her husband, Bill, has dedicated his life to keeping members of the 9/11 community informed about issues that are important to them. She is also survived by her son, Billy, and daughter, Doreen, as well as her five loving granddaughters.

Last week I had the pleasure of visiting Bridges, the mental health clinic I worked at as a clinical social worker prior to September 11th. I joined the staff in 1994 as part of their interdisciplinary team providing counseling services to adults. On the morning of September 11th, after receiving a call from my husband, I went to a television in an adjoining building with the director of our agency. As we entered the room, we watched in disbelief as the second plane flew into the 2nd tower, where my son Brad worked on the 89th floor.

All of us at VOICES have been inspired by the heartwarming response to our invitation to participate in the "Always Remember Commemorative Book". It has been such a pleasure for our staff members to work with family and friends to create meaningful tributes to your loved ones. We want to notify you that the deadline for submissions has been extended to this Friday, December 16th so we can accommodate families who are in the process of creating their tributes.

We have had a wonderful response to our recent mailing inviting our membership to participate in the "Always Remember" Commemorative Book. Thanks to those of you who have called or written to express your support of this project. We are very excited that in addition to the written tribute we will be able to include a color photograph.

Thanksgiving is a time to gather with family and friends, to count our blessings, remember our loved ones and to look to the future with hope. I thought I'd share this quote that captures the essence of gratitude, which is so much a part of the holiday season.

Sip hot mulled cider and enjoy a light buffet with our staff, friends and family members. Children will have the opportunity to participate in arts and crafts activities. VOICES is supporting Rutgers University Veterans, and the Blue Star Families' "Books on Bases, Smiles On Faces."
